Billing, plans and account · For businesses evaluating 3CTel

When does billing start?

Billing starts on activation, which is the point where your system goes live and calls are switched over to it. Everything before that, including planning, configuration and testing on a temporary number, happens without a charge. The quote you confirm in writing before activation states exactly what is billed and from when, so the first invoice matches what you agreed to.

What activation means

Activation is the day your new system starts handling real calls. For most businesses that is the port date, when your existing number moves from your old provider. If you are starting with a new number instead of porting, activation is the day you begin using that number for your business.

Until then the system exists on a temporary number for testing. You can call in, try the menu, leave voicemails and sign in to the apps as many times as you need. That testing period is part of setup, not a billable service.

What the first invoice covers

Because the quote is confirmed in writing before activation, the first invoice should not contain anything you have not already seen. If it does, contact your specialist and it will be reviewed.

  • Recurring service for users, numbers and features from the activation date.
  • Any one-time items listed on your quote, such as devices you purchased or porting work.
  • Applicable Canadian taxes, shown separately.

Devices and hardware

If your quote includes desk phones or other hardware, the quote states how they are handled. Devices are configured before they ship so they work as soon as they are plugged in, and they are usually on desks before the port date so the switch-over is smooth.

If your port date moves, for example because the losing carrier requests a correction, activation moves with it. You are not billed for the new system while your old provider is still carrying your calls.

Related questions.

Is there a setup fee?

Any one-time item, including setup or porting work, is shown on your quote before you confirm it. Nothing one-time or recurring is billed until activation, so you can see the complete picture in writing first.

What if I decide not to go ahead after testing?

Testing on a temporary number is part of setup. If you decide not to activate, tell your specialist. Your quote and terms describe how devices that were shipped to you are handled.

Can I pay by credit card or pre-authorized debit?

Payment methods are confirmed with you as part of the written terms before activation. Ask your specialist which options apply to your account and whether invoices can be sent to a bookkeeper or accounts-payable address.
